Fall Fun and Flavors Await at Bellewood Acres in Lynden, WA
Bellewood Acres is an apple farm located in Whatcom County, just north of Bellingham WA. While it’s orchards are divided between two farms, one in Lynden and the other in Ferndale, the Lynden location welcomes visitors to its farmstore and distillery year round.
The farm grows 22 varieties of apples including the local favorite Honeycrisp as well as some pears. In the fall, they offer u-pick apples and pumpkins, plus other festivities for the whole family during October’s Harvest Festival.
During the rest of the year, you can browse the farmstore, eat breakfast or lunch at the cafe, or taste the spirits at the on premises distillery.
The Farmstore
The farmstore at Bellewood Acres offers fresh locally grown fruits, as well as tasty products made on the farm such as homemade Honey Roasted Peanut Butter (a must try), Apple Butter, Apple Chips, Caramel Dip, and Cider.
While the shop has scaled down its offerings post-pandemic, you can still find a nice selection of local wines, nuts, sauces, jams, honey and more as well as a small selection of arts and crafts from local artisans.
You can also purchase apples from the farmstore. My favourite is the Belle de Boskoop, a tart apple that makes great applesauce and is also a good baking apple.

The Cafe
The cafe at Bellewood Acres offers a cozy setting with rustic decor, with seating available indoors and out. The cafe sources local and seasonal ingredients, ensuring the freshest flavors and supporting the local farming community.
The menu includes homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, breakfast, and warm bakery goods. In keeping things local, the cafe serves Woods coffee, a local roaster and coffee chain. Only breakfast and lunch is served, however you can buy from the bakery after lunch service ends.
The Distillery
When they moved their farmstand to its current location on Guide Meridian, they added a distillery. This is adjacent to the farm store and they offer tastings of their creations which included vodka, brandy, gin, as well as coffee liqueur, pumpkin spice liqueur and “Bruce” which is an apple brandy.

When to Go
Check the website before you go for the most up to date opening hours. Currently they are open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm, with lunch service ending at 2 pm.
In the fall, the month of October brings the harvest festival, popular with families. You can pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, take a “train” ride (aka a tractor pulling a line of wagon cars) through the farm, u-pick apples, enjoy food both indoors and out, and wander the corn maze.
This is popular and can get crowded on weekends, but on a recent Saturday in mid-October we managed to find parking in the overflow area with no problems. In the past, we’ve noticed that the closer to Halloween, the busier it gets.

Is the fruit organic?
The farm practices sustainable farming. It is also adjacent to a creek and takes steps to ensure the safety of salmon in the creek. This means that the fruit is chemical free, even though it is not certified organic.
Bellewood Acres is a picturesque family farm with beautiful orchards but also offers a range of attractions and experiences for visitors. From u-pick apples and pumpkins to a harvest festival in October, and distillery tastings, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
