The Whatcom Museum is housed in the historic Old City Hall in downtown Bellingham. This red gem is one of the iconic landmarks of Bellingham. Built in 1892, it has been used as a museum since 1941 and offers visitors a unique blend of history and culture.
Old City Hall’s was the first site in Washington State to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and holds a special place in the region’s heritage.
The museum’s fine art exhibitions moved to the nearby Lightcatcher building allowing Old City Hall focus on historical exhibitions. From tales of former inhabitants, including prisoners, to engaging programs, this site preserves the rich history of Bellingham for all to explore.
One of the unique attractions here is the John M. Edson Hall of Birds. This large collection of vintage taxidermied birds are displayed in a way that educates about migration and conservation.
